The Mashpee Commons
Street Performers' Festival
Since 1989, audiences have crowded into Mashpee
Commons to watch some of New England's ( and beyond! I.e.: in 2001
we had The Flaming Butterflies from Australia!) best
street acts. Always held the 1st or 2nd week-end in August (the height
of summer!). The Festival was started by a part-time street performer who
wanted to interact and have a good time with some of his performing
buddies while at the same time sharing some cool and off-beat acts with
his neighbors; the local populace. This small but charming
festival concentrates on attaining a "good vibe" for
both performer and attendees, providing a "kinder, gentler" crowd than
most street acts are used to while at the same time providing back to back
talent of a higher calibre than the summer crowds are used to. Seems to
work, you see the same people in the audience year after year and
the performers are always asking to return.
